The Active Over 40 Fitness Project combines the individual attention of having your own personal trainer with a fitness group’s sense of community, creating a powerful and innovative solution to common fitness pitfalls.
The Project takes both a mental and physical approach to fitness, using behavioral psychology tools to manage goals, keep you on track, and successfully overcome setbacks.
What makes it different?
This is not a gimmicky cookie-cutter, get-fit-quick program. The size of the group is kept small to ensure participants receive personalized feedback. Advice and tips are given based on an individual’s unique situation; guidance is customized for each participant’s goals and obstacles; and workouts and challenges are designed to be flexible, so each person can shape them to their own strengths and weaknesses.

Active Over 40 Fitness was created by Dan Mathers, a certified personal trainer, ultramarathoner, obstacle racer, father, husband, occasional ninja, hiker and paddler.
Dan has competed in some of the world’s most challenging obstacle and endurance races — ALL OVER THE AGE OF 40. These races include the 24-hour World’s Toughest Mudder, the Spartan Death Race, the Spartan UltraBeast, and many other events. He has completed several ultramarathons, including finishing second in the 2019 Peak Bloodroot 100, a grueling 100-mile race in the mountains of Vermont widely considered the Northeast’s toughest 100-miler. He also enjoys short course obstacle challenges, and he qualified for and competed at the 2019 and 2020 National Ninja League World Championships.
How does it work?

Why isn’t it a normal automated sign-up?
A couple reasons. First, I want my interaction with each participant to be personal. I’m not interested in just taking your money. Before you sign up, I want to make sure our goals and expectations are on the same page and that this program is right for you. I think that sets us both up with the best chance of having you succeed and be satisfied. Second, it allows me to easily cap and manage the size of the group. And third, while I have the knowledge to help you get fit, I have embarrassingly little knowledge of technology and web design. (So, like my fitness philosophy, let’s keep things simple.)
